The Month of August
As you all know, summer tends to be slow for our church. It’s a deep breath and exhale. Its a time we sit aside primarily for all those who serve well during the year to retreat, rest, and return to a life of prayerful dependence upon God.
But August is when things get going again. Not just at the church either. Many of us are already, even in these early days of August, prepping for kids to start school, work to grind a little harder, and fall events to begin ramping up.
Although rest is necessary, I am glad for things to pick back up. I hope you are too. Our regular rhythm of gathering and scattering is a beautiful thing for us.
As August begins, here are a couple ways I want to prepare you for all that is happening this month:

SERVE THE CHURCH
August begins our first ever “Serve the Church” Campaign where we intentionally set aside a month where we re-emphasize, reconsider how we are serving and partnering the mission and vision of the church carried out through our various ministries. Starting this Sunday, you will hear from different ministry leaders as they tell us all a little bit about their respective ministries, their needs, their vision, and how you can partner. Make no mistake, the goal of this month is to see a greater percentage of our membership - our whole church even! - serving and meeting the needs of the different ministries that exist at Sola. There will be a form going on Sunday for you to sign up for the first time or recommit to the ministries you can be a part of in our church.

PRAYER FOR KIDS + SCHOOL
Believe it or not, summer is over and kids are starting school. Something we wanted to do is take time to encourage and pray for this transition. We will be taking an extended time of prayer, but you will find below an adaptation of one of our family’s nightly prayers that we will be saying together as a church on Sunday.
If you have young kids, please make sure you are there so that your children can feel the support and love of our church family as they begin a new school year.

O Lord,
We are set apart for your glory,
We are called into the world,
To see and know you Jesus,
And to preach the Gospel to our community and world,
In our schools and in our neighborhoods.
Use us Father we pray.
Amen.

PREACHING IN AUGUST
The preaching in August is going to be about a few convictions that we should have going in to this fiscal year as a church. Our preaching schedule will reflect that throughout the month. This Sunday, we are going to be looking at the biblical imperative out of Deuteronomy to disciple the next generation in the ways of Jesus. I am expectant for the next few weeks. But starting at the beginning of September, we will be returning to our sermon series on the book of Acts.

GROUPS
Many of you are excited and expectantly waiting for groups to start back up. Our leaders are as well. Look for an announcements either next Sunday 8/11 or on Sunday 8/18 for the plan going into this year for our group ministry. I think there is a general excitement headed into this year for the ways that groups are going to impact and equip us as disciples.
BUDGET
Finally, every August is a time where we re-examine our budget, come up with a plan for the next fiscal year, and vote on it. This will be happening at the end of August with a formal announcement going out this Sunday or next.
As you can see, there is a lot of things going on at our church. I hope you are equally excited as I am, and I hope that you are prayerful and intentional about what the Lord is doing in your life personally as we seek to see all of our members mobilized and on mission in city for His glory.
