Holy Week Devotion - Good Friday

If you havent done so yet, please read the Introduction before proceed further by clicking the button below.
Good morning on Good Friday. It’s the end of the week. You may be tired from a lot of toil. Whatever you are feeling, there is grace available for you today. Receive it. Declutter your mind. Slow yourself down this morning to really be in tune with the new mercies that are available right now as you wake, or wherever you find yourself engaging in prayer during your day.

(Set a timer for 3-5 minutes)
Today, we are going to start by considering what Jesus did when he bore the wrath of God for our sins on the Cross. Feet on the ground. Palms up in surrender. Quiet your mind. Cast all thoughts away except for the Crucified Lord on the Cross.

“It is finished. Thank you Jesus.”

Control your breathing. Slow. Be aware of the tension you are feeling. Give your burdens to the Lord. He willingly takes it on his shoulders, and today is the day to remember that.

Breathe in: “It is finished.”
Breathe out: “Thank You, Jesus.”
(Repeat this for the next 3 or so minutes)

(7 Minutes)

Scripture Reading: John 19:1-30 (The Crucifixion of Jesus)

What about John’s account of Jesus’ death stands out to you?
What details are unsettling? Why are they unsettling?
What hope do you find in this passage?

Spend a few moments now thanking Him for what He did on the Cross.

When you are ready, pray this prayer as you close:

Prayer:
Lord Jesus, on this day we remember Your sacrificial death on the cross. You bore the weight of our sins and endured unimaginable suffering out of Your great love for us. What a Savior you are. Thank You Lord. Amen.
