Sunday Morning Liturgy

Call to Worship

God shall arise, his enemies shall be scattered; and those who hate him shall flee before him! As smoke is driven away, so you shall drive them away; as wax melts before fire, so the wicked shall perish before God! But the righteous shall be glad; they shall exult before God; they shall be jubilant with joy!
Sing to God, sing praises to his name; lift up a song to him who rides through the deserts; his name is the Lord; exult before him!
Adapted from Psalm 68

It was Finished Upon that Cross

verse  One

How I love the voice of Jesus
On the cross of Calvary
He declares His work is finished
He has spoken this hope to me
Though the sun had ceased its shining
Though the war appeared as lost
Christ had triumphed over evil
It was finished upon that cross

verse three

Death was once my great opponent
Fear once had a hold on me
But the Son who died to save us
Rose that we would be free indeed!
Death was once my great opponent
Fear once had a hold on me
But the Son who died to save us
Rose that we would be free indeed!
Yes, He rose that we would be free indeed!

verse two

Now the curse, it has been broken
Jesus paid the price for me
Full, the pardon he has offered
Great, the welcome that I receive
Boldly, I approach my Father
Clothed in Jesus' righteousness
There is no more guilt to carry
It was finished upon that cross

verse four

Free from every plan of darkness
Free to live and free to love
Death is dead and Christ is risen!
It was finished upon that cross
Onward to eternal glory
To my Saviour and my God
I rejoice in Jesus' victory
It was finished upon that cross x3

Prayer of Confession

Holy God, we realize that you know us
More intimately than we know ourselves.
We come before You now asking You to show us our sin,
to make us aware of our failings,
to open our eyes to our brokenness.
We are wandering sheep that have gone our own way.
We need Your wisdom and guidance
To show us the path of truth and life,
For we are lost without your grace.
Search us O God and know our hearts.
Test us and know our troubled thoughts.
Give us true repentance that only comes from You.
Do Your transforming work in us so that we can live
As Your redeemed people in this world.
In Jesus’ Name we pray. Amen.

passing of the peace of christ

1 PETER 2:1-5
[1] SO PUT AWAY ALL MALICE AND ALL DECEIT AND HYPOCRISY AND ENVY AND ALL SLANDER. [2] LIKE NEWBORN INFANTS, LONG FOR THE PURE SPIRITUAL MILK, THAT BY IT YOU MAY GROW UP INTO SALVATION—[3] IF INDEED YOU HAVE TASTED THAT THE LORD IS GOOD.

[4] AS YOU COME TO HIM, A LIVING STONE REJECTED BY MEN BUT IN THE SIGHT OF GOD CHOSEN AND PRECIOUS, [5] YOU YOURSELVES LIKE LIVING STONES ARE BEING BUILT UP AS A SPIRITUAL HOUSE, TO BE A HOLY PRIESTHOOD, TO OFFER SPIRITUAL SACRIFICES ACCEPTABLE TO GOD THROUGH JESUS CHRIST.

"It is To Your Advantage"

John 16:5-15
“I did not say these things to you from the beginning, because I was with you. [5] But now I am going to him who sent me, and none of you asks me, ‘Where are you going?’ [6] But because I have said these things to you, sorrow has filled your heart. [7] Nevertheless, I tell you the truth: it is to your advantage that I go away, for if I do not go away, the Helper will not come to you. But if I go, I will send him to you. [8] And when he comes, he will convict the world concerning sin and righteousness and judgment: [9] concerning sin, because they do not believe in me; [10] concerning righteousness, because I go to the Father, and you will see me no longer; [11] concerning judgment, because the ruler of this world is judged.

[12] “I still have many things to say to you, but you cannot bear them now. [13] When the Spirit of truth comes, he will guide you into all the truth, for he will not speak on his own authority, but whatever he hears he will speak, and he will declare to you the things that are to come. [14] He will glorify me, for he will take what is mine and declare it to you. [15] All that the Father has is mine; therefore I said that he will take what is mine and declare it to you.

Lord's Supper

Matthew 26:26-29

Now as they were eating, Jesus took bread, and after blessing it broke it and gave it to the disciples, and said, “Take, eat; this is my body.” And he took a cup, and when he had given thanks he gave it to them, saying, “Drink of it, all of you, for this is my blood of the covenant, which is poured out for many for the forgiveness of sins. I tell you I will not drink again of this fruit of the vine until that day when I drink it new with you in my Father’s kingdom.”

You Have Searched Me (Psalm 139)

Verse 1
You know when I sit down and when I rise up
You discern my thoughts from afar
You search out my path and my lying down
And are acquainted with all my ways

Chorus
O Lord you have searched me
You have known me O Lord

Verse 2
Even before a word was on my tongue
Behold, Oh Lord you know it still
You hem me in, behind, before
And lay your hand upon me
O such knowledge is too wonderful to me
O Lord you have searched me
You have known me O Lord

Bridge
Where shall I go from your spirit
Where shall I flee from your presence Lord
If I ascend into heaven
You are there x2
If I take the wings of mourning
And dwell in the utmost parts of the sea
Even there your hand shall lead me
And your right hand shall hold me still
